something about the guns. the nra statement today is sadly and shamefully inadequate, calling for more guns and rejecting real action against gun violence. at a defining a historic moment for our nation demanding courageous leadership, the nra has declined to step forward as a credible and constructive partner. the proposal for more armed guards in schools may be helpful in some instances, but it falls short of the strong, serious comprehensive action needed to stop the kind of horrific tragedy that occurred last week. many police that spoke to me on that day when we take a said that the killer was so heavily armed that they doubted they could have stopped him. the american people are demanding real change. the nra proposal fails to offer any real protection from violence. members in connecticut and around the country are writing and calling me to say that the nra does not speak for them. it was a call for action. the nra has failed to answer the call. we need to do something about these guns, about the assault weapons, the kind that was used in the new town tragedy. i am very proud to join

a legislative vote. for now it looks like the nra and wayne lapierre have not been invited by vice president biden to talk about ways to reduce gun violence. according to the nra's president david keene there's been no contact from the white house to include them in this process. piers morgan has penned an op-ed for those who want to see him deported for his views on gun control saying although i love the country as a second home and one that has treated me incredibly well, i would as a concerned parent first seriously consider deporting myself. and actor charlie sheen is at it again, but this time he has company. on saturday sheen sent out this tweet to the mayor of l.a. who knows how to party. tweeted a picture of sheen and the mayor of l.a. at a rooftop bar in mexico and it was only a matter of time. administration officials say they are ready. >> the nra is an organization that has members who are mothers and fathers. and i would expect that they have been impacted by this as well. and hopefully they will do some self-reflection. >> reporter: president obama made it clear today that he intends to use the bully pulpit to appeal to gun owners on this issue. wolf, it's still to be determined how much of a clash there could be with the nra over this. there is obviously some concern, though, and i think you can see that in just some of the lawmakers, the gun rights lawmakers who are coming out and sort of changing their tune on this issue. many of them, for instance, west virginia senator joe manchin doesn't have to worry about re-election until 2018. we've also heard from steve loutorette. he is retiring. maybe they are not the vulnerable ones and we haven't heard a lot from those who are. >> it was clear to me, brianna, and maybe you as well, the president really has been moved by what happened last friday morning in newtown, connecticut. and he wants to take action now because as one of

of gun owners who say, you know what? this time we've got to do things differently. >> what about the nra? >> well, the nra is an organization that has members who are mothers and fathers and i would expect that they have been impacted by this as well and hopefully they will do some self-reflection and. here's what we know. that any single gun law can't solve all these problems. we're going to have to look at mental health issues. we'll have to look at schools. there are going to be a whole range of things that joe's group looks at. we know that issues of gun safety will be an element of it. and, you know, what wave seen over the past 20 years, 15 years, is the sense that anything related to guns is somehow an encroachment on the second amendment. what we're looking for here is a thoughtful approach that says, we can preserve our second amendment, we can make sure that responsible gun owners are able to carry out their activities, but, that we're going to actually be serious about the safety side of this. that we're going to be serious about making sure that something like newtown or auro
